Artist's Comments

This is the first of my Seven Deadly Sins set. I started the idea about a year ago after reading the play Faustus. The personafications of the sins inspired me to create my own versions of them. I left them sit for a while and recently was inspired to revist them.

This is Lechery, or Lust. Of all the sin in the play, it was the only one given a gender. One which transfered over to my version. Lechery has always been defined to me as a physical desire, usually of a sexual nature. I tried to characterize this with me personafication. She plays the seductress. Wrapping her victim in a very physical embrace and drawing him into her cluches.

The Ideas and Symbols:
- The fire in the borders is my little reference to the fires of Hell.
- I forgot at first why I used the purple... but I knew it was something one of my friends had said. Then someone I showed it to described it as purple passion. Normally red is used for passion, but somehow I like the purple.
- The Wheel in the back has one symbol for each sin. Lechery's is the top one. I though the passionate kiss would symbolize the physical desires that Lechery represents.
- The fire in the background orignally was going to be another reference to hell, but I didn't want to overuse that background in the set. Then other people said it represents the burning desire and firery passion.
- The shadow figure represents a human soul being tempted to sin. I left him without details so that I didn't detract attention from the personafied sin.

I will be completing the set with the other six sins. The next one has already been started and is Envy.

Hi. From the description of the picture, it sounds great, but unfortunately my Javascript doesn't work here (it's enabled) so I can't see it. :( *cry*
I will search for magical sunglasses so I can see it in all its glory!
Or magical Javascript, I'll try both.

Hmmmm..... Would you be able to see it if I uploaded it to someplace like Photobucket and sent you the url. I have an account there so it wouldn't be a huge issue. If that works, let me know and I'll take care of it ASAP.

Thank you, and if it works I have a bad feeling that you may do that for your other sinful works of art. *devilish grin*
I'm having a good day. I said something completely inappropriate in Science and my teacher asked, "Are you kidding?!" although she found it funny and didn't punish me in any way.
:iconbeachbeagle:
Wow! That's different. I've never had a teacher do that.

Don't worry. If it works I won't mind doing it with the whole set... or any other pieces I have up here that you would like to view. ^_^

:D It's kind of weird carrying on conversations that take weeks. Fun, but weird.
The fact that I'm saying that makes me weirder. :-(E)

I love teachers that understand the mind of a kid.
